The Flying Dog (Leith)

• EdinBloggette is in the same boat
• The Flying Dog is somewhere we've been planning on visiting for a while
• It's very inviting with its huge windows that you can actually see through a world away from The Trafalgar Bar which had an 'enter at your own risk' vibe
• We put this down to the World Cup (which we were more than happy to miss)
• Nicely styled with mismatched furniture and bare walls
• As a self declared chilli addict I was intrigued by the chilli beer which had just been ordered in
• EdinBloggette was taken by a pale ale going by the name of Doggie Style
• Doggie Style was the clear cut winner
• It was strangely moreish and was surely going to go well with my choice of dog
• The Flying Dog with cheese and chilli seemed like my logical choice
• EdinBloggette's dog was tucked away in the soft fresh bun with lashings of slaw acting as a blanket
• Two people with immense doubts about their ability to even consume the dogs were proven wrong
• That's not to say this is going to become our favourite dish
• It's safe to say we were satisfied with our meal
• I didn't even think I was still hungry
• The ice cream cake was gone before I knew it
• Smoked salmon pricked up my dining companion's ears and we were already starting to make plans to return
• Restaurants and bars are increasingly finding a niche to have a unique offering
• Their speciality is hotdogs and their very special appeal is that they welcome dogs
• Dog owners are always looking for places that welcome dogs
• Animals who have been badly treated in the past and who are now anxious animals that should not be left alone (doing so is as unkind to the dogs as it is to the neighbours)

• The herring came wrapped around dill pickles and drizzled with dill sauce
• Both hotdog and sandwich was filling on its own
• We shared a chocolate mousse cake that was satisfyingly dense and chocolatey

• What was once an old mans pub was then tured into a fantastic wee eatery in Leith
• The owner and staff are super friendly and welcoming
• The place is a bit niche in terms of menu but said niche is done well as the hotdogs are well made and good value
• The place itself is compact with the expected Yank touches but thankfully not done obnoxiously
• The staff are attentive and friendly which is always good
• Emily Campbell went for the Lazy Dog and was quite happy with hers as well
• Overall we liked the food and the lady that served us but there was no one else in the resturant at around 5
• 30pm on Saturday which was rather strange
• I would advise them to pull up their blinds which were almost all the way down at that time
• The concept is good but I don't think many people know the restaurant is there
• Finally got chance to pop in on Saturday with Urban Traveller to try out the dogs
• Sometimes all you need is a good bun
• 30pm which was quite a shame as it seemed to lack atmosphere inside
• The staff were really pleasant and even gave me a lolly pop which always makes me happy and the venue itself is simple but nice
• Unlike alot of the American diners that are popping up
• I just hope that maybe it was a quiet day for them as the hot dogs did exactly what I needed them to be
