The Observatory - The Glasshouse (New Town)

• The restaurant is slightly hidden away but you are taken there by a member of staff
• The restaurant is bright and airy
• A particular highlight for us were the pigeon starter
• It caters for gf and vegetarians alike so there is definitely something for everyone on the menu
• Up until recently the restaurant within The Glasshouse was open only to residents but at the start of July they made the decision to open it up to non residents also
• T think of anything nicer than spending a Saturday evening with good food and nice surroundings
• I find it rare for a full service team to be so concerned about their vegetarian customers (if this is not their menu focus)
• The staff service was exceptional
• With each of them coming over to chat to us about the event/venue and to make sure we were happy with the food
• The burger was amazing and all the staff were really friendly
• The Observatory is a nice restaurant situated at the back of the hotel with a view on Calton Hill
• We were served a brown crab which was a terrine of brown crab
• Version together with mini beef burgers
• My favourites were the soup and the cod and I would definitely have it in full version
• We had the pimms cocktails which were very tasty and I could also recommend their wine
• Overall this is a lovely restaurant with a beautiful view
• The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and it's definitely a place out of ordinary
• Afterwards we were shown to the restaurant
• Their idea was to take something simple and make it the best it can be using local produce and some unexpected ingredients
• Waiting staff were attentive and friendly
• From here you are taken outside to a rooftop garden
• The garden is amazing and hosts spectacular views
• The room is quite big with large windows
• The whole experience makes you forget that you are in the middle of a city as there is a lot of greenery surrounding the building
• We were served cocktails and wine along with delicious canapé
• Both of these were fantastic and I am not much of a desert person
• The restaurant itself is a bit of an odd space with quite a corporate feel and is a faff to get to through the hotel
• Stop off at the rooftop garden for a drink (and look at menus) before being taken to the restaurant which is a nice touch and would make the experience more special
• The food is contemporary Scottish cuisine with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients
• The cod was the standout dish it was tender and perfectly cooked
• The sous chef took the time to chat with everyone after the meal
• I have long wanted to visited The Observatory restaurant so I was pretty excited to head along for the Zomato Meet Up
• The hotel is pretty wonderful and you get some of the best views of Edinburgh when you are in the terrace rooftop garden
• I personally was looking forward to the crab tomato soup which was served with a parmesan doughnut
• My only criticism was that due to the lack of spoons (as it was just a taster in a shot glass) it was difficult to get the crab from the bottom
• Venison which was my first trying this particular meat but found it really enjoyable
• Places that are stunningly brilliant
• The Glasshouse is something else
• The roof garden staggering and the bar with its open fire was very sophisticated
• It was hard to judge the atmosphere of the restaurant as it was set up more as a function room for our visit
• It was a very pleasant space with a great view of Calton Hill
• The staff were all very friendly and efficient at keeping us provided with food and drink

• The samples were a really good hint about the quality and enthusiasm for flavour you can expect from the kitchen
• This classy restaurant is pretty fabulous
• Means that I will probably will have to go back to see if it is as good as everybody said
• The receptionist was lovely and showed us to the lift and gave clear instructions on how to find the restaurant (it is a bit of a walk
• All I need to do now is persuade my husband to book a room there
• We were greeted on the door by the evenings manager and were quickly seated
• We were then served an Amuse bouche consisting of an oak curried salmon with a beautiful celeriac puree along with a glass of fizz
• The food was outstanding and I was really impressed to see the great quality dishes
• I did however feel the service was a little scattered
• It has to be said that all the staff we met were very friendly and helpful
