  • Clockjack Oven in Soho is hoping to change all that

  • Stepping into Clockjack with its lively atmosphere and roaring fire rotisserie oven was much welcomed

  • The staff only added to my comfort with their warm welcomes and attentive service

  • Clockjack (Soho) is definitely for people in the know

  • Served alongside is a small salad coated in a light

  • We ordered four legs which is the recommend if you&rsquo

  • I always am and was a steal for £

  • If all you knew about Clockjack was that it was a brand new proto chain

  • With a bare bones menu serving only chicken with a handful of sides

  • Some Shoreditch art gallery where you can impress your friends with chicken that tastes like it's been rubbed down in Knorr (hang your head

  • I knew this was going to be the kind of place I'd have to try very hard to dislike

  • So with an open mind (or at least as open as I can manage in Piccadilly Circus) I ordered 3 pieces of roast chicken with chilli sauce

  • What's depressing is that I expect it still won't happen very often

  • As Clockjack is still in its first month of trading

  • There was a bit of gentle training still going on with some new members of staff

  • I presume they were practising on mine

  • In keeping with the stripped back nature of the place itself there was nothing fancy going on in terms of herbs or marinades

  • Free range with a good strong showing of dark flesh

  • A nice fresh ranch dressing which I was brought to try alongside the (slightly disappointing) chilli sauce

  • If I was going to poke a hole in anything else it would be the rather uninspiring wine and beer list and the embarrassing logos on the t shirts the women are forced to wear "

  • Hilarious but really these things are unimportant

  • All you need to know is that chicken specialists Clockjack make possibly London's best roast poultry and before you scoff at that claim you need to try it yourself for very little money indeed

  • Recommended to us was this Briska pomegranate liquid heaven and apparently I now like cider

  • It was delightfully refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness

  • We began with a plate of greek style mezze with a delicious pepper and zucchini dip

  • Tzatziki and houmous to share and the famed buttermilk chicken bites with creamy dipping sauce

  • The restaurant has a comfortably informal vibe and a great place to catch up with old (and new) friends

  • My nostalgia for the bird is unbounded and what better way to spend a Sunday lunchtime than in its company

  • The way to my heart is definitely through le Creuset) and the dressed salad to add a nice bit a green

  • The buttery biscuit base to topping ratio was just right and went down an absolute treat

  • Checking the fantastic clockjack cog clock on the wall signalled our time had very much come to an end and it was time to dash off to The Royal Academy for yet more high brow activities

  • I know there are chicken only places popping up all over the place

  • We arrived at 7 and to our delight were seated straight away

  • There were plenty of empty seats but it transpired they were booked up for larger groups already

  • The chicken was juicy and succulent

  • Or the pots you get from Domino's but that is none the worse to me

  • Likewise the chili sauce which was spicy but not overwhelming you could easily dunk chips into it all night

  • The BBQ sauce was a little thin for me

  • Something fishy just doesn't appeal to me and my friends who did try it said it was really rather strong

  • The coleslaw was also a good version of it

  • The salad came with three balls of sage and onion stuffing which were a little dry but also tasted quite good

  • Weirdly it was the most expensive side at 4 quid compared to the fries at 3 pounds

  • I think Clockjack (Soho) is deserving of being a restaurant in its own right it's not simply jumping on the bandwagon of doing a no choice menu

  • Fast forward a few years and chicken restaurants are everywhere

  • Saff is actually quite concerned about the amount of chickens that are consumed in this country &ndash

  • Just behind Piccadilly Circus and an eggs throw away from the spectacular looking Ham Yard Hotel is Clockjack Oven

  • It has a mix of long communal tables with benches and smaller tables of four with heavy metal chairs

  • The place mat food menu was simply designed and so easy to navigate

  • While the drinks menu is on a separate mini clipboard

  • Plus the Briska brand is produced at the oldest cider mill in Ö

  • I found it more refreshing than the pear variety although the pomegranate taste was fairly subtle

  • Our waitress insisted that we had it and we were glad she did

  • Deep fried to beach babe brown and served with barbeque or ranch sauce

  • While ranch sauce (more a dip than a dressing) was light and creamy

  • In 1950 and has been the best selling salad dressing in the United States since 1992

  • What took our time was deciding on the sides (or extras)

  • Ethically reared chickens are sourced from a co operative of farms around the town of Janzé

  • Maybe Saff is right on her chicken shortage theory

  • In fact it was the opposite

  • T order any other extras with my sandwich

  • Sweet and slightly sticky with that afterglow warmth from the bourbon

  • T want a pudding with chicken in

  • Especially as the apple sorbet was apparently sweet and like a puré

  • There are a couple of things that are definitely worth a mention

  • Great for a light bite or as a side with the rotisserie chicken

  • We always write with complete honesty

  • I went here on a Groupon deal so I was happy with the value due to the deal

  • Portions are generous with a lot of choice on the drinks menu (including a strong selection of craft beers) &

  • The chicken skin was lovely &

  • Crispy but the chicken was a little dry with not a huge amount of flavour

  • The veg could have been better (it was a bit limp) but the sweetcorn really stood out lovely

  • There was a good buzz but the food was all a bit average

  • I've been to some great places so far this year which were on my 'to eat list' and it's only 3 February

  • Last week I was very kindly invited to the first Zomato meetup of 2015 at Clockjack in Soho

  • The day I met my now husband we ended up at a Nandos because the pub we were in had stopped serving roasts

  • We started with hummus and baba ghanoush with pitta bread

  • Whole rotisserie chicken with slaw and fries

  • The fries were the best I've had in ages

  • Throughout the evening I got to meet some great bloggers and it was great to chat all things food and to put names to faces

  • It's easy to do so since as of 2015 there are over 300 branches in the UK alone

  • The burger market is over saturated

  • As a girl who indulges in her consumption of poultry I was interested in trying Clockjack's menu

  • The chow down started with toasted pitta bread accompanied with baba ghanoush and hummus for appetisers

  • I don't normally have baba ghanoush and eat hummus on occasion however I found that they were well made and wasn't too heavy

  • Consisted of Clockjack wings (chilli and barbecue) and chicken bites with barbecue and ranch sauces

  • I also learnt an interesting fact ranch sauce is the most popular sauce in America

  • I was surprised and I kind of thought Americans were more in love with barbecue sauce

  • I was keen to try the London Fields Shoreditch Triangle as they were East based

  • My preferred beers were the Camden Hells Lager and Vru (an Estonian beer

  • I'm not beer drinker and those two were the most likeable by my taste buds

  • The main meal was whole rotisserie chicken to be shared amongst 4 people

  • Their chicken is free range and currently sourced from France

  • The chicken is marinated in a soft herb brine before being roasted

  • You can definitely tell you are eating quality chicken

  • It was well cooked succulent with a crispy skin

  • A gravy came with the chicken

  • It was a nice flavour however it was thin in comparison to what Brits may typically have with a their chicken roast

  • Jim Beam sweetcorn and southern style beans (not pictured) to eat with our chicken

  • We were served with sample versions of the desserts feature on their menu

  • I don't believe that this is normally how they serve their desserts

  • Part of Clockjack's charm is the atmosphere it's relaxed and down to earth

  • Despite catering for such a large crowd Clockjack were really accommodating to my dietary needs

  • While I sampled the former with a few olives

  • The next few dishes to arrive were the buttermilk chicken bites (£

  • The wings were served with America's favourite sauce Ranch

  • The chicken is simply seasoned

  • The chicken was moist and delicious

  • With a crispy skin served with a simple gravy

  • American style comfort food in the heart of the theatre district then Clockjack is the place for you

  • East and West London which was going down pretty well with the group

  • Entrees are a selection of chicken nibbles and this is where the fun really starts

  • Buttermilk chicken bites are a delectable combo of thigh meat

  • Dusted in a gram flour combo and served with ranch and bbq sauce

  • This French lady is meant for 4

  • I know all about brining because Nigella was a bit obsessed with Christmas turkey brining a few years ago (Admittedly she may still be) and it&rsquo

  • S clearly the thing to do with poultry and I have no idea if that&rsquo

  • You do need the sides though so my advice to you is not bother filling up on breads and bites or whatever and just order up a whole chicken and all the sides

  • S really memorable is the chicken

  • Starting with toasted pitta bread accompanied with baba ghanoush (£

  • I loved the ranch sauce that came with the chicken bites

  • No wonder its one of the best selling sauces in the US

  • I'd have this sauce with everything

  • All I will say is that this isn't a place to take a date

  • The chicken was cut up and served with coleslaw (£

  • One can not argue that this is pure good quality chicken

  • Desserts we were brought a taster selection which I honestly couldn't try but they looked good

  • There was something which I couldn't quite put my finger on that was lacking flavour wise in all dishes

  • The chicken is definitely better quality than your average Nando's but the flavours are a lot more subtle

  • Home style chicken meals with good service and a nice atmosphere for fast food

  • Very tasty and the ranch dressing was superbly creamy

  • The main I chose was the 1/4 chicken breast with a side of Jim Beam sweetcorn

  • The chicken was a generous size and so succulent

  • The sweetcorn was subtly flavoured and nowhere near the overcooked mush you get in other chicken haunts

  • My libation choice for the night was a carafe of wine and although was fairly priced

  • The staff were super friendly and even took time to chat with me (remember

  • Sometimes you want to go to a place where you can hang with your friends in a buzzy environment with some good food and good drinks

  • I will be back (but this time with a group of friends

  • In reality are just as bad as Nando's itself

  • The chicken is well seasoned

  • On a Sunny Sunday in London I was more than keen on having a proper chicken for lunch

  • Being a Portuguese in UK you really get tired of arguing that Nando's is not portuguese food

  • The environment is really friendly and engaging

  • The menu is very straightforward and chicken is the Queen of the house

  • Both the smoked BBQ and the garlic one were really good

  • They have recently undergone some changes in management and menu and with the only vertical rostisserie in Europe

  • The manager was on hand all night explaining about the restaurant and the food

  • The night started off with toasted pitta bread and dippings of baba ghanoush and hummus

  • Hummus was very smooth and baba ghanoush was tasty but do save room for the chicken

  • The chicken wings was a let down

  • It was bland and the meat was quite dried

  • My chicken wings standard has now set to wings from Smoking Goat (I know it is entirely different flavour

  • The lady bird of the night finally appeared along with many sides

  • The result is succulent juicy tender meat packed with subtle flavour

  • Fries are crispy and fennel is added to the slaw for an extra dimension

  • Gravy was also served with the chicken

  • Fullers Frontier lager was the most likeable to my taste bud

  • The others are all equally good with some tasting more heavier

  • Look no further than Clockjack and it is definitely good value for money considering its busy location

  • Rotisserie chicken has had a makeover and is now rather trendy

  • Those who like to share you can do what we did and order a couple of chickens with lots of sides

  • Those who are a bit more protective of their plates there are plenty of more singular options like burgers and salads

  • The chicken is pretty good not dry at all with some lovely crispy skin

  • It could do with a bit more flavour

  • It's a great place to come with a group for friends for a fun

  • Rotisserie roasted chicken was such a delight

  • The meat was super tender and moist with great neutral meaty flavours of the chicken

  • The chicken was lightly seasoned and just enough to carry the beautiful succulent taste without overpowering it

  • The limited menu is unapologetically all about the free range chicken

  • I opted for 3 pieces with double cooked chips and a sample selection of sides

  • The roast chicken is tender and not dry

  • They have a good meal deal for lunch a quarter of chicken with a salad which you can choose between grilled vegetables

  • I always tried pulled pork but I have been surprise how is delicious the chicken one and even the bread brioche is a bit sweet but soft and matching with perfection with the sauce and meat

  • The service was really quick and kind

  • Seeing as the table was shamelessly tempting us for some

  • What I did like otherwise what that you could opt to get several types of sauces with your chicken

  • The Raunch sauce (creamy and with herbs) and the Chilli sauce (which for some reason I thought would be sweet chilli but it was actually chilli and hot)

  • I fondly remember when I went to a random rotisserie in Mexico with Annu and I got a half chicken and IT WAS a freaking half chicken

  • That place was so amazing

  • Clockjack prides itself on serving succulent chicken dishes made with ethically reared free birds

  • I headed there for my first visit (and second Zomato meetup) with the firm intention of eating my weight in rotisserie chicken

  • It paired well with our sharing starter of homemade houmous

  • S Buttermilk Fried Chicken hit me with a distinctive taste of dairy

  • The chicken is marinated in buttermilk batter for 24 hours

  • Crispy morsels with a heart of tender meat (and

  • (surprisingly) packed with juicy meat around the bones

  • The size of the whole chicken was so striking

  • D seen me approach it with knife and fork in hand

  • T eat roast chicken with your hands&rdquo

  • The chicken was tender to the point it fell off the bone

  • Ll save those for when I go back with my partner

  • The Rotisserie Chicken came with a bowl of chips

  • Sweetcorn flavoured with bourbon and honey too

  • Not even when I remembered that dessert was still yet to come

  • The pecan and maple syrup pie was my favourite

  • Always on an empty stomach that awaits filling with as much chicken as it can fit

  • Opposite Jamie's Italian is a rather unassuming chicken shop

  • We sampled a range of dishes starting with the babba ghanoush and some really tasty chicken wings

  • These were washed down with a beer from each of the four compass points of London

  • French bird was extremely succulent and a world apart from its Portuguese/South African restaurant cousins

  • Only drawback for me was a personal preference for thicker and spicy sauces rather than gravy style

  • This was then finished off with a lovely selection of Clockjack's dessert offerings

  • All of which were delightful

  • The cheesecake was particularly good

  • The chicken here is excellent value for money

  • So when Zomato invited me along with other food bloggers to try out Clockjack in Soho

  • I went there with mixed feelings

  • The revamped interior is cozy and welcoming thanks to the dimmed industrial lights and wooden tables

  • We kicked off the evening with some Pitta Bread accompanied by Hummus and Baba Ghanoush

  • The chicken was served with fries and slaw

  • We finished off our meal with a sample plate of their desserts

  • As I already had so much to eat by that point and they were all quite heavy

  • One of the things I do in my spare time is research new places to eat

  • T just mean how meat is killed but also how it lived

  • So free range is a prerequisite

  • When I arrived at the restaurant I was informed that my halal chicken had been ordered

  • The chicken was succulent and juicy

  • The Sweet potato fries where great and went really well with the chicken

  • Ve been to some great places so far this year which were on my &lsquo

  • It wasn't that packed either is the magic waning out

  • Despite that all opinions are mine and I haven't been brainwashed

  • My boyfriend and I were slightly ambitious and ordered a whole rotisserie chicken

  • Everything was well cooked

  • It gets a 3.5 because although the food was really good

  • The chicken dishes are pretty average and do not match up to the hype as vividly sold to us by the manager

  • The chicken is tender but bland

  • The baba ghosh with pita bread which we ordered seemed semi frozen

  • Interesting interiors with some cheeky quotes

  • The rotisserie was on display behind the bar

  • Chicken bites were tasty but I think their wings looked better

  • Rotterserie chicken be careful with what sauce you chose as that is what adds flavour to your food

  • Clockjack (Soho) is a great place for chicken lovers

  • The chicken is great but I still would say nandos is nandos

  • There are lots of free seats but yet I was place right next to the door and every time someone gets in

  • The winter breeze comes right into us and we are not really enjoying our time in that restaurant

  • The half chicken is not dry but not super juicy either

  • The chicken is under season too in my opinion

  • Honestly enjoyed their chicken wings with the Korean angry

  • The kumara fries were delish but Not too sure about the mushroom side we chose though

  • The buttermilk chicken bites was very nice and the Korean angry chicken wings were good too

  • Their trademark rotisserie chicken was just ok and not cooked enough inside
