Thai Square (South Kensington)

• I totally love Thai food and Thai square is a delight for Thai food lovers
• I always order the chicken massaman curry with rice and that in itself is a supremely satisfying meal
• They also have amazing green curry (which is a little too spicy for me) and Penang curry
• Another option if you chose to spend more on you meal is the set menu which is really fantastic
• You order that and you are sorted for the day
• From starters to the dessert avert thing is taken care of
• The downside to Thai Square (South Kensington) would be that it's a little more expensive in comparison to other oriental restaurants and the seating is very cramped up
• This truly is one of the best when it comes to Thai food
• In a simple decor with wooden tables and golden Buddha statues everywhere
• They have been awarded the best Thai restaurant in the UK 2006 2007
• Like shrimp with pepper sauce
• That went to this one without hesitation as I was in the mood for some tasty Thai
• Tasty Thai was not on the menu though
• I went with vegetarian green curry which is normally too spicy for me
• Baked mixed vegetables with glass noodles
• Thai square is quite popular in London
• The building is quite dodgy looking and the restaurant is quite small and cramped
• The service is good though
• I had the chicken stir fry in a basil sauce and one portion of chicken kung po with steamed rice
• The basil chicken was flavourful and tasted quite good
• The kung po chicken was quite average It lacked spice and was a little bland
• I had the King Prawn Panang curry with sticky rice
• My companion the Lamb Massaman curry with egg fried rice
• Neither of us were pushing the boat out
• It's slogan is apparently 'The most authentic Thai food in London'
• My sticky rice was brought to my table inside a microwave bag
• Or whether it was done on purpose nothing was said when the waitress cleared up
• After breaking it up and fluffing it up with my chopsticks a bit
• Some of these 'gourmet' supermarket offerings are pretty good these days
• Couldn't I have just gone with one of those
• I was not impressed by the experience and it is unlikely I will return any time soon
• The first issue I experienced is that I was expecting to meet with others
• Telling them that none of their patrons were expecting anybody (of course
• In general I felt the staff were unresponsive and did not seem very enthusiastic about anything which was a little bit off putting
• The interior is nice and clean though a little bit sterile and not very homely
• The food quality is about what you'd expect it's simple and decently tasty
• Given that it was supposedly the spiciest thing on the menu
• I finished my meal in no more than about 10 spoonfuls and was still quite hungry when we left
• The food and experience was definitely not worth it
• If you're in the area and are craving Thai food
• Thai Square is certainly not out of the question
• Very convenient to organise to get together with friends coming from different parts of the city
• The restaurant is spread across three levels and extremely busy
• The som tum is my favourite and you can't go wrong with it in most Thai restaurants
• The mains we had the tamarind duck (great taste with crispy seaweed)
• The dessert we had a chocolate lava cake with passion fruit icecream which did not go well together
• The icecream was too overpowering for the cake but both separately tasted great
• We also had the chocolate pyramid which was a mousse inside a chocolate coat
